About

SubTypical is a personal blog designed and maintained by Jesse Tucker.

Jesse Tucker

I’ve been developing websites for over 10 years, when table-based designs were the best way to put a site together. I certainly don’t miss those days. I took a few classes here and there on web development, but it was always something I saw as a hobby, not something that I’d build a career off of. Now, by day I’m a full time developer for a large organization, and by night I’m a freelancer. Few people are really able to take a hobby and turn it into a career, and I’m lucky enough to be one of the few that has.

I see myself as more of a “Jack of all trades, master of none” when it comes to web design and development. I know enough to be dangerous with most markup, style sheet, and scripting languages, enough to know that I have a lot left to learn. Because I have a good understanding of the concepts and methods of everything that is out there and how they work together, and with the wealth of knowledge sprinkled across the web, there isn’t a project I couldn’t handle. I’m more of a hands-on learner, and I’m constantly learning new things as I go.

I’ve been a tech junkie and computer geek longer than I’ve been a web developer. Once upon a time, I also enjoyed writing. SubTypical was created as a way for me to discuss the things I’m interested as a tech junkie and geek, and rediscover the joys of penmanship. Unlike many typical sites out there like mine, I’m not here to try and become an industry leader. I don’t want to re-invent the wheel for the internet, and I’m not particularly interested in providing content based on what everyone is searching for at the moment on Google. I’d rather focus on the things I’m interested in. Since my goal isn’t to get anything out of it, feel free to take what you see at face value.

SubTypical is one of many places around the net that I call home. Here’s a few others:
