Like the commercials say, "There’s an app for that". And there is. There are some great apps out there that aim to boost productivity and streamline processes you perform daily. There are apps out there to interact with people in various social media outlets. There are apps out there that can save you money. But this isn’t one of those apps. Dotopop is a game that is very simple to learn. It’s also one of those rare gems that once you pick up, you can’t just put it back down. It’s an app that doesn’t really serve any purpose other than to waste your time, but it does it splendidly.
About the Game
Dotopop is made by GhostBirdSoftware, and they describe the game as "…a visually pleasing and highly addictive casual game that will keep you entertained for hours." Here is their description for the game:
The objective of Dotopop is to invoke a chain reaction for as long as possible. This is the key to winning! Tap the screen to fire a burst and start a chain reaction. Then, sit back and enjoy the show!
Dots will activate by touching each other. (Every dot that is touched by a burst will create another burst). Try to predict where the cluster of dots will go.
There are 60 levels to beat, each has a minimum number of dots to pop before proceeding to the next stage. This is a fun and relaxing game that involves a bit of skill and lot of luck!
Game Review
I must warn you, there really isn’t any strategy to the game. Just when you think you’ve figured out how to play it, you realize that the strategy doesn’t work. It’s all luck. With that said, it’s still an incredibly addictive game. It’s easy to learn, and hard to put down. I can’t explain how satisfying it is to watch as your dots explode all over the screen, as you hold your breath hoping that they all are caught up in the chain reaction. It can take many tries before you move on to the next level, but it isn’t frustrating because you can always start again at the current level. You don’t run out of lives so never have to start back from the beginning. Also, it seems that the game has been updated since the developer’s original description, because I’m currently on level 68.
I know a game is a hit if my wife can pick it up and play. When she saw me playing, and I explained the rules to her and gave her my iPhone to play it, and she couldn’t stop popping the dots either. For $.99, you can’t really go wrong by picking this game up, so go ahead!
